boiler plc control system

Application review for a boiler plc control system focuses on how steam or hot-water duty changes the brief. Upstream feedwater, fuel train and downstream steam users are interfaces to confirm. This page does not certify a combustion system or replace the boiler manufacturer’s listed safety design.

Application boundary
A boiler plc control system may sequence pumps, dampers, feedwater valves and ordinary process interlocks. Burner management and flame safety remain a separate listed architecture. Mixing those duties into one unlisted general-purpose rack is a design decision the buyer and qualified designer must own, not a default this desk can approve.

Available evidence

The 2011 Hawk 5000 manufacturer manual copy, observed 2026-09-17 via a brand-appointed reseller archive, describes a split between PLC combustion control and a burner management (flame safety) system. That split is useful as a procurement question, not as a current listing, efficiency rating or 2026 code certificate. Micro850-class pages list I/O and 24 VDC envelopes for compact controllers; they do not demonstrate flame-rod or scanner logic. Representative production samples for a boiler brief are instrument lists, drum-level ranges and fuel type, not a consumer “sample pack.”

What does the source not establish?

The archive PDF does not prove the Hawk 5000 is still sold, does not prove US listing for a new project, and does not let a standard PLC be substituted because its I/O count fits. Public retrieval of the manufacturer store returned access limits; those limits were recorded rather than filled with guessed models.

How application changes selection

Hot-water versus steam changes drum-level, pressure and blowdown instruments. Dual-fuel versus single-fuel changes analog and digital counts and changeover logic. A packaged firetube with an OEM burner-management controller may only need a process PLC for plant handshake; a custom watertube may need a larger I/O map. Upstream/downstream interfaces include feedwater pumps, condensate return, steam headers and any existing plant DCS. Compressed air demand belongs to actuated valves, not the CPU. Cooling water belongs to the boiler, not assumed for the cabinet. Footprint in mm must include door swing and heat dissipation.

Industry disputes that should stay visible: treating a single cabinet as an integrated boiler island without naming burner-safety ownership; using nominal steam capacity instead of validated output on named water quality and fuel; comparing machine price of a PLC rack with the installed project cost of wiring, SAT and spare scanners. None of those disputes is resolved by this website.

Limits: we do not guarantee combustion efficiency, NOx, or a single certificate covering the whole island. Working pressure in bar or psi is a boiler mechanical spec the control RFQ must reference, not a PLC rating. Inquire from catalog options after the duty split is written. Related notes: I/O list and file ownership.
